Reading maintenance LTV on a second monitor

Posting LTV tells you how the loan starts. Maintenance LTV tells you when the lender’s patience ends.

Borrowers often memorize the posting loan-to-value and stop there. The more consequential figure for liquidation buffer estimates is the maintenance threshold — the ratio at which the lender’s process moves from quiet monitoring toward forced close.

Why two LTVs belong on screen together

On a desktop layout we place posting and maintenance LTV in adjacent cells. The gap between them is part of your working room, but only if collateral value is measured after haircuts. A wide gap with aggressive haircuts can still mean a thin price distance on the weakest asset.

Questions we ask in health checks

During a collateral ratio health check, we ask:

  • Has the lender changed the maintenance schedule since posting?
  • Did any collateral line become ineligible?
  • Is the principal unchanged, or were there partial draws?

Open loans drift for ordinary reasons. The health check exists to rewrite the ratio with today’s inventory, not to shame the original estimate.

A note on alerts

Price alerts on a phone are useful. They are not a substitute for knowing which maintenance LTV applies. If the schedule lists different thresholds by collateral tier, the alert must match the tier you actually pledged.
